A Whirlwind Spring

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010
Headed to west coast to do demos in Oregon and Washington for the weekend of April 16-18. Gonna be traveling hard! It will be fun - never been to the state of Washington before.

Want to congratulate the Jasper Indiana crew and Jim Murray for a great clinic there. Just got back from one in Greenfield, Ind also. I went and did some demos and judging at the Royal Winter Fair in Brandon, MB, Canada. Weather was great and it was the first time I’ve seen the ground in the three years I have been going there!

We are finally getting some much needed rain. Ky is getting closer to getting finished with college for this year. It will be nice getting him back home! Kyra is busy with High School Rodeos. She home schooled this year and is finished with school work - just has to take year end test. She got her braces off after 4 years and below is the picture she took of herself after she got out of the doctor’s office. She was pumped! Me too!

We’ve got all our calves we are going to show now and guess now just go to work. Were feeding Fitters Edge with Power Fuel. Great combo!!! One we’re adding a little corn. Well better get on my plane. Thanks for reading my blog!

Show Season in Full Swing

Monday, March 8th, 2010
Hi everyone! We’ve been busy with local, county, and distict shows in Oklahoma. By the time we get to the Oklahoma Youth Expo, we will have been showing every week for a month. Ag teachers, extension agents and families in Oklahoma are all in show mode. Been doing lots of hoof trimming and clipping. Weather is getting better so that’s good as we are trying to wrap up calving heifers.

Check out the websites honorshowchow.com and kirkstierwalt.com as there are a lot of events already scheduled. Try to come…I know you’ll enjoy it! Also - Ag leaders, don’t forget the Honor Show Chow VIP in June at Gray Summit, Mo. Great speakers on all species. It gets better every year!! Check with your Purina dealer for details. Mark Johnson, I hope you didn’t miss the OSU-Kansas game lambing!!

I’m sitting at the airport headed to Ripley, WV for a clinic over the weekend. Better get on this plane!

Trying to catch up and get back in the groove of blogging!! Jan 2010 started and here it is already Feb. It’s been busy with shows, clinics and events as usual and that’s a good thing… In January I did a clinic in Creston, Iowa (-16 degrees ) and we had a great time… Ky went with me and we also got to visit my mom who lives in Chariton. Always good to see her. Went to Guyer’s Sale and did a demo. They sure know how to put a event on! Then we went to Denver. Kyra had Reserve Middleweight Lamb. I was one of the officials in the college judging contest and that was fun observing all the talent that those kids have.

Flew to Conroe, Texas for an Honor Show Chow event, and believe it or not it was colder than Denver! Kent Savage, you are awesome! When he puts one on you know it will be good!! Then I headed back to Denver and did a demo with fellow Ambassadors Bob May and Dave Guyer. I stayed for the Andis Prospect show handing out product and the premium sale. There’s only one Denver!! A lot of good cattle!! Then went to Ft Worth and watched Kyra run barrels - Becky Allan, thanks for coming and watching too. Ky was working there also and he helped fit the Reserve Grand Steer. Congratulations to Jay, Eric and the Henry’s.

The Purple Circle Magazine did a Jr Spotlight on Ky in the Feb. issue and we appreciate them doing that!! Just got back from doing a clinic in Seneca, Ilinois. It was a great clinic and have really enjoyed going there the past years. If you are ever there, go to Hanks Farm and eat a great steak!!

We’ve had a winter this time in Oklahoma and am kinda ready for spring. Been calving heifers and so far so good. All the county fairs and springs shows are firing up here and everyone is getting ready for them so that also has us busy. I am doing a LIVE CHAT on Steer Planet Wednesday Feb 24 at 8:00 pm Central. This is the first time they are doing this so hopefully it will go well!

Also we are excited about our new website that is being built by Ranchhouse Designs and hopefully that will be up and running SOON! Our new domain is kirkstierwalt.com. Talk to you soon and good luck at the shows!!

PS ……..I sent a few pictures - a family photo that was taken after church (and ended up being our Christmas card), and a ring shot of Kyra and her lamb that I liked from Denver. Thanks for visiting the HSC Website!!!

Well Kyra ended up 5th overall at the Quarter Horse World Show which is pretty cool because she was the only youth that competed in that barrel race. The others were pro riders and trainers! Her horse’s name is Reba…

I’m headed to do a clinic in CA. I’ve been doing one there for over 10 years! I’ve been selling calves at home and getting other cattle out to wheat. Ky’s coming home this weekend as deer rifle season starts… We live in a 500 population town and my brother-in-law’s feed store has sold more than a semi-load of corn for deer feeders… that’s amazing to me! I guess if you can’t grow it, you buy it down here! We have been using the Purina Super Lick tubs and Wind and Rain mineral tubs for the cowherd. That’s great for me as you all know I’m gone a lot and cows stay more regulated on protein and mineral.

As for Dec., Kyra is entered in the Barrel Futurity at OKC… There will be 2000 contestants there … I’m doing some horse clipping demos there for Andis. Looking forward to judging the Kansas Beef Expo with Bob May, and also judging the AGR Show in Lincoln, Ne.

Well better wrap up! Want to wish everyone a happy holiday season and safe travels… See you at the shows! PS … Hey Mark Johnson - I was getting a little worried about your cowboys against CU last night!!

Keeping Busy this Fall!

Monday, November 9th, 2009
Hi everyone!!! Sorry I haven’t blogged in awhile!! Well, it’s been a pretty exciting fall for us!! The kids have been showing a lot… Ky had the Grand Steer at the Tulsa State Fair and brought $35,000 in the sale of champions. That was the tailgate to his showing career. We’ve been blessed with that! Cool thing. We got a traveling trophy that we keep for a year, and it dates back to 1949! Kyra had the Reserve Suffolk. At KC we took 2 lambs and got 1st and 3rd…Kyra also was Reserve Intermediate Showman. Congratulations to Brock May and his Grand Steer!

Dave Allan, Dave Guyer and myself conducted a showmanship demo and that was fun working with these guys. I’m headed to Florida for a clinic this weekend. We are not going to NAILE this year, instead Kyra is running at a barrel race at the south point casino NFR week in Las Vegas. She made the finals at the world show in OKC and that is tomorrow. Ky likes the judging team at college and he finally got his cast off the week after Tulsa. We have been getting plenty of rain and that’s a good thing. Better go… Hope to see some of you at Columbia City, IN Thanksgiving weekend with Mike Witte and crew!!!

Hi everyone!! Been really busy and got behind on my blogging!! This summer has flew by huh?? Looking back, I was home 3 days in June, 7 days in July, and was gone every weekend in August! It’s all good too!!

Ky started college and it’s sure different not having him around, but he really enjoys college and judging. He just got a walking cast on and has to wear that for 2 months. Gonna be a 6 month ordeal after all is said and done.

Kyra has been busy barrel racing and getting ready for the state fairs. Kyra is home schooling so Juli has been busy getting that organized!

We finally got a big rain and it sure changed everything. We ended up getting 4.5 inches mid-August.

Had some great HSC events in August at Asheville, NC, Paragould, AR, and Houston, TX …everyone did a great job and that makes these events fun!!! This is a great team and I’m glad to be a part of it. I now have a month off and I’ve been swamped around here…. all the fall fairs are starting down here so been doing alot of hoof trimming. We have weaned our AI calves and we have the best set we’ve had due to the fact was we had a lot of bull calves this time… We will start breaking and getting those ready for people to look at. Also we have our first weekly barrel race at the arena starting tonight. The hard part is getting it ready… after that it gets easier. We have 2 state fairs to prepare for now. The first one in OKC is in 2 weeks, and then 2 weeks later is one in Tulsa. Better wrap up and talk to you soon!! Good luck at the shows!!

One Busy Guy!

It’s HOT down here!!! We’ve seen 112 degrees twice and it’s been in the 103 range for a week. Hopefully it’ll be better by weekend.

Been traveling a lot still. Ky and I headed out to the Hereford Jr Nationals in Tulsa, OK. and did a demo with Dave Allan. Good crowd!! I judged the team fitting contest and headed to Des Moines to do a demo at the Gelbvieh Jr Nationals. Ky and I judged the team fitting contest. We had fun! We had dinner with my mom afterwards. Always good to see her!

We picked up Rambo in Nebraska. Then headed to Listowel, Ontario, Canada for a clinic over the weekend. Thanks to RK Supply for a super event. Then flew home and watched Kyra run barrels at the IFYRA in Shawnee.

Now I’m on a airplane headed to Sacramento to the Charlois Jr Nationals and then to Oakley, Kansas Thursday for a seminar. Gonna get a few day break after that!!! Have a good summer! Catch you later!!

Staying Busy this Summer

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009
Hi Gang!! I’ve been busy with travel lately. I did a clinic in Seminole, Texas and Ky went with me. Thanks to the Long family! We had a good time and a good group. We went bowling and a lady that had only bowled once before did better that me! Shows how good I am!! Ha!

We also did a clinic in Elk City, Ok. There was people from Texas, Okla., and New Mexico. It was a fun time . It was hot, but we got through it and did most the work to the cattle in the mornings and rinsed them a lot. We do two clinics in the summer in Oklahoma. The next one is at Elk City, Ok July 28-30.

KYRA ran at rodeos over the 4th. She placed 8th at Amarillo,Tx. and hit a barrel at Canadian, Tx. to place 2nd. I don’t get to see her run sometimes with clinic travel, so if I’m around I like to go see her compete. Ky went to a wedding in Durango, Co with Casey Hilmes. He said it was really beautiful there. We still need rain badly here. I’m headed out to Jr Nationals and Canada. Talk to you then !!!

Keeping Busy this Summer!

Well a lot to write about this time. Happy Father’s Day to everyone. I just got back from a clinic in Riverton, Wy. Thanks to Brian and Marti Warner. We’ve been going there for 5 years. Great people!!

Then I was off to a favorite of mine, the Honor Show Chow VIP at the home office in Gray Summit, Mo. What an event it was with all the ambassadors and HSC staff. The weather was challenging at times, but ended up being an awesome event. There were ag leaders and educators visiting from across the USA. I think it was the best one yet!!

My family is enjoying the summer. Just finished breeding cows! KYRA and Juli are busy with barrel racing. Ky is coping and getting around better. He’s getting faster on crutches! Stitches are out, staples come out in a week. We’ll know more Thursday after he sees the doctor. Hopefully he’ll get a cast for support.

I’m at a clinic for ag Ed and extension leaders at the GA. University until Wednesday. I’m getting to hang out with Jary Douglas then to Seminole, Texas for a clinic from Thurs - Saturday.

PS rumor has it Mike Harbour is gonna start blogging, so be on the lookout. How bout them cowboy,s Mark Johnson??!!! Talk to you next week!
