Question: I am currently feeding Impulse at 1 1/2 lbs per day with 4 oz of Power Fuel and 4 oz of Champion Drive. Goats could use a little more cover. Need your input on holding at my current weight (for my show in early March).

To hold the goats without gaining weight for a month and increase cover is a very tall task. Animals have daily nutrient requirements that must be met for maintain muscle and fat cover. Then on top of that nutrient requirements for increasing gain and or body fat.

To hold goats where they are at, and attempting to increase fat cover I suggest the following diet:
(TOTAL FEED PER DAY; DIVIDE INTO TWO EQUAL FEEDINGS MORNING AND EVENING):
HSC Impulse 1/2 lb (8 oz)
High Octane Champion Drive 1/2 lbs (8 oz)
High Octane Power Fuel 4 oz
High Octane Heavy Weight 4 oz

This diet should come close to what you desire, but again holding animals for any length of time is not easy.

Question: What is the shelf life of half a bag of Impulse Textured Goat Feed?

Normally, we prefer a textured feed to be consumed by 45 days from date of manufacture. The feed remains good long after, but it can be a little dry. The feed should be fine for at least 60 days, and more than likely 90 days.

The weather plays a role. Humidity and heat decrease the shelf life of feeds.

Question: My son shows goats every year in our county show. We have unopened bags of feed left. How long will the feed last if we store it?

Feed is perishable. Pelleted feed does have a longer shelf life, but the general recommendation is about 6 months if kept cool and dry.

Question: My show is in 45 days. I want to give my wether Champion Drive, but I am hesitant because I do not want him to get urinary calculi. I have lost two goats in the past years and do not want to lose another one. Are there any known cases of wethers getting urinary calculi while on this supplement? What can I do to prevent him from getting urinary calculi?

Although there are no known cases of urinary calculi when feeding High Octane Champion Drive with other brands of goat feeds (you did not mention which brand you are feeding), Champion Drive is designed to be compatible with HONOR Show Chow XClamation and HONOR Show Chow Impulse.

There is no problem feeding Champion Drive with our show goat feeds.

Question: Can powerfill for pigs be fed to show goats to add a little bloom and fill?

HONOR Show Chow Powerfill is only labeled for swine. Although it might provide some additional energy for goats, it probably is not very palatable to them.

I suggest feeding High Octane Depth Charge at 2 to 4 oz per day for more fill, and High Octane Power Fuel at 4 to 8 oz per day for more bloom and cover.

Question: I have pet goats who LOVE the HONOR SHOW CHOW, they fight over it. I only give 1/2 cup per goat twice a day as a treat as they also browse and have grass hay. I just bought a new bag and fed yesterday, neither goat would touch it. I tried again today and same story, still in the bowl. I am trying to find out if you changed anything? I have looked carefully through it for mold or insect and do not see anything. It is more powdery than the last bags I have purchased. There is a stamp at the bottom of the bag that says 1SEP03DEM1. I am hoping this does not mean it expired in 2003!

Nothing has changed in the feed. The date code reads that the feed was made in Denver (DEN) on September 3, 2011.

If the goats will not eat it please take it back to the dealer you purchased it from and ask for a replacement bag with a different date code. We will look into this date code on our end.

Question: I have one goat that I need assistance on adding muscle over the top while not adding too much weight. He currently weighs 104 lbs and will show February 7, so we have about thirty five days until weigh in with a maximum weight of 115 lbs. He is currently getting one and three quarters pound impulse with Twelve ounces of fitter thirty five and a quarter pound of champion drive per day. Is there a better formula for adding muscle while maintaining weight?

High Octane Champion Drive is designed to improve rack and top shape. I suggest increasing Champion Drive to at least 8 ounces per (12 would be better) and reducing the base feed (Impulse) by the same amount.

Question: Heard that Honor Show Chow has a new fat supplement coming out? Just wanted any information you have on it.

Thank you for your question and interest in High Octane Heavy Weight.

High Octane Heavy Weight is a dry, high fat (70%) product. It has milk replacer like qualities (water miscible), and contains coconut oil.

During testing animals loved it. You can feed this to any species. However, ruminants may take 3 to 5 days to make the adjustment. My suggestion would be to start slow (1 to 2 oz per day) with ruminants and increase slowly ever 3 to 5 days.

It should now be available through our Fort Worth distribution center for your local Purina dealer to order.

Question: I rescued a goat and she is a nub/sanaan cross from features and color. She was very neglected and she is also pregnant. She is very food aggressive and attacks my other goats and myself when feeding. Will she ever pull out of this? I cannot have her attacking my other pregnant does. A little insight would help. Not sure what direction to go in.

It sounds like this doe needed to be very aggressive to get something to eat at her former residence. Goats are like people in that they adapt and learn how to survive, and that quickly becomes a habit.

She has a bad habit. My suggestion is to separate her from the pregnant does at least at feeding time. Or, eventually she is going to cause one or more does to abort their kids.
