Ed: New Fat Supplement

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Question: Heard that Honor Show Chow has a new fat supplement coming out? Just wanted any information you have on it.

Answer: Ed,

Thank you for your question and interest in High Octane Heavy Weight.

High Octane Heavy Weight is a dry, high fat (70%) product. It has milk replacer like qualities (water miscible), and contains coconut oil.

During testing animals loved it. You can feed this to any species. However, ruminants may take 3 to 5 days to make the adjustment. My suggestion would be to start slow (1 to 2 oz per day) with ruminants and increase slowly ever 3 to 5 days.

It should now be available through our Fort Worth distribution center for your local Purina dealer to order.

Paul: Where Can I Find The HSC Product?

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Question: I was told by my local Tractor Supply Store Manager that he could only order feeds that were on his sheet from TSC. He told me that in order for him to carry the Honor Show Chow feeds that it would have to come from TSC management. I was wondering if Honor Show Chow could help get it to where our local TSC store could order the Show Chow line of feeds.

Answer: Paul,

Thank you for your question and interest in HONOR Show Chow.

In Alabama, you can obtain the HONOR Show Chow show products at your local Purina dealer. To find your local dealer, go to our website: honorshowchow.com then click on the Dealer Locater button. You can find this on the yellow bar in the middle of the screen to the far right.

Then enter your 5 digit zip code. This will produce your local dealers with phone numbers and addresses.

Nicole: High Octane for Turkeys

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Question: I had heard about the High Octane fitter 35 could be used on most animals. I was wondering if it would be safe and effective to use on turkeys?

Answer: Nicole,

Thank you for your question.

I am not sure about Fitter 35 as it manipulates the metabolism to burning body fat. In broilers and turkeys, energy or body fat is desired at a premium, so I do not think it would be useful.

However, both Champion Drive and Power Fuel are very useful.

Blake: Feeding Grit

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Question: Do you have to feed show broilers grit and how?

Answer: Blake,

If you are feeding a highly nutrient dense feed like the Honor Show Chow line of feeds, you do not need grit as part of the diet.

Grit is only needed if you are feeding scratch grains as the sole feed ration. It serves as a grinding mechanism in the gizzard to break down the coarse grains and also provides additional Calcium to their diet.

Honor Show Chow poultry feeds do not contain scratch grains and it also contains more than enough Calcium to meet the nutritional needs of your birds.

I hope this information helps you as you plan your feeding program for your show poultry project.

James: Medicated Feed

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

Question: I have been feeding my chickens the show chow but I noticed that it was medicated. My question is since it is medicated, can I eat the eggs they produce without harm to me or my family?

Answer: James,

The medicated label on the feed bag only represents the presence of Amprolium (a chemical coccidiostat) and BMD (Bacitracin for the prevention of Necrotic Enteritis). Both of these antibiotics are safe to be fed from hatch to market (including human egg consumption).

Enjoy your home fresh eggs (especially the double yolked eggs which are my favorite!).

Milton: Poultry

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Question: I am looking for a feeding program for broilers. Do I need to add vitamin/minerals to the water in addition to broiler complete. My girls are just getting into FFA and any direction on a complete health and nutrition program would be of help. Thanks!

Answer: Milton,

First of all welcome to the Show Broiler Industry! You will find this project for your girls and family to be very fun and rewarding. There is a lot of quality time that will be spent as a family during the 6 to 7 weeks of this project! Enjoy the time spent with your girls! I look forward to show season every year because I know that my teenage daughter will communicate with me and we tend to have a lot of fun!

This is a very fast paced project and every day and every hour counts. We can not afford to have mistakes, temperature problems, out of feed, out of water, etc. issues. We never can make up for time lost with this project!

I have attached a week by week program for you to review and consider as you plan your feeding and management strategy for the upcoming flock of broilers. Read through the program and contact me if you have any questions.

Let me introduce you to a product called Oasis. Oasis is a product for poultry (broilers, layers, turkeys) that has shown a tremendous benefit to market show poultry by giving better rate of gain and breast meat yield. Oasis has three benefits to your show birds:
1) Oasis is green in color and attracts the birds to the feeder and they consume more feed.
2) Oasis contains 25% moisture which provides added moisture to the bird while they are eating.
3) Oasis contains Citric, Sorbic & Propionic Acid: These acids work to reduce the pH value of the GI tract and allows for more efficient nutrient absorption by the bird.

These three modes of action result in bigger, more uniform birds to take to the show ring.

Feeding directions are: Feed Oasis as a topdress (covering 50% of the surface area of all feeder space) once per day for four (4) consecutive days each week. Do not feed for the remaining three (3) consecutive days of the week. Repeat this feeding routine every week that you have your project birds (from hatch to show).

You will find that after about four (4) weeks of age, the birds decide to eat less during the three days off the product. If this occurs, it is okay to topdress all 7 days (after the 28th day of age). I would reduce the 50% coverage to about 30% coverage for the seven (7) day treatment.

The product comes in a 22 lb. bag and each bag will feed out a flock of chickens (flock size of 75 birds or less) from start to finish if you are using the traditional poultry feeders. If you are using pipe, gutter or trough feeders in the house, you will utilize more product because the feed surface area is increased by using these means of feeding equipment.

Each 22 lb. bag cost $75 (product cost) + $25 UPS Shipping charges. A box contains two-22 lb. bags and cost $150 + $30 shipping.

The product is located in Kingwood, TX and you are welcome to arrange a pick-up time if you are in the area and want to save the shipping charges.

In order to purchase the product, contact me directly and we will either ship the product to you or arrange a time for you to come pick up the amount that you need.

Thanks and take care!
